I have been writing off and on for 50 years, often to keep my sanity and find my center again. I have made no real attempts to get things published, but am beginning to explore options now…at least finding some places to share things with others.
I have been writing essays, poetry, short stories and a variety of personal essays. I also do photography. I am not sure if you are interested in essays, so the examples I will send will be of my poetry.
My interests are broad and include an interest in words and language, human development and empowerment, democracy and community and education.
Although my wife, Beth, and I are retired, I still do some work with clients as an Empowerment Consultant, especially using guided imagery, which I have done for the last 20 years or so. Before that I was a teacher of Literature, American Studies and Humanities.
I also worked at Honeywell setting up an international conference for career development for scientists and engineers.
Earlier, I worked in New York City for the US Public Health Service.
Educationally I have a broad background. As an undergraduate I spent 2 years in engineering and then changed my major many times before graduating with a Major in English and a Minor in Humanities from the University of Minnesota. A few years later, when I began teaching in Michigan, I was certified to teach all high school subjects with the exception of physical education because of the breadth of my undergraduate experience.
Since then I have added a MA in Secondary Education from Michigan State University and all but dissertation in an Adult Education PhD program at the University of Minnesota.
We have 2 grown sons and one grandson and have lived in Minnesota, Manhattan, Michigan and the Bay Area of California. We are now back in Minnesota and loving it.
